过去完成进行时是另一种表达“过去的过去(past in the past)”的时态。
我们该如何组装过去完成进行时的时态呢?
过去完成进行时的结构如下：
第一个助动词(have)与一般过去时的had始终是一对的。
The first auxiliary verb (have) is conjugated in the Past Simple, invariable: had
第二个助动词(be)在过去分词形式中是不变的：been
The second auxiliary verb (be) is invariable in past participle form: been
主要分词在现在分词形式中是不变的：后面加ing
The main verb is invariable in present participle form: -ing
对于否定句，我们在第一个助动词后面加个not
For negative sentences we insert not after the first auxiliary verb.
对于疑问句，我们交换主语和第一个助动词。
For question sentences, we exchange the subject and the first auxiliary verb.

过去完成进行时的缩写（Contraction with Past Perfect Continuous）
当我们的说话的时候用到过去完成进行时的时候，我们经常收缩主语和第一助动词。我们有时也会以非正式的书面形式这样做。
He'd been drinking all day.
It'd been pouring with rain.
在否定句中，我们可以缩写第一个助动词和not :
We hadn't been living there long.
They hadn't been studying very hard.
我们该如何使用过去完成进行时呢？
过去完成进行时类似于过去完成时（Past Perfect），但它表示过去中持续较长的动作，而不是过去中的另一个动作。
（即表达一个动作发生在过去某个动作的之前且持续时间较长）
The Past Perfect Continuous tense is like the Past Perfect tense, but it expresses longer actions in the past before another action in the past.
举个栗子：
Ram started waiting at 9am. I arrived at 11am. When I arrived, Ram had been waiting for two hours.
John was very tired. He had been running.
I could smell cigarettes. Somebody had been smoking.
Suddenly, my car broke down. I was not surprised. It had not been running well for a long time.
Had the pilot been drinking before the crash?
你可以把过去完成时想象成现在完成时，但时间不是现在，而是过去。
You can sometimes think of the Past Perfect Continuous tense like the Present Perfect Continuous tense, but instead of the time being now the time is before.
举个栗子：
Imagine that you meet Ram at 11am. Ram says to you:
"I am angry. I have been waiting for two hours."
Later, you tell your friends:
"Ram was angry. He had been waiting for two hours."
